The Citan's international unveiling comes on the back of Daimler's partnership with the Renault Nissan alliance, which will see technology and platforms shared across all three companies.
Featuring front-end styling inspired by the brand's new design language, Mercedes says the light van's look will eventually migrate to the brand's larger commercial offerings.

Inside, the Citan gets its own unique dash design, with a tall centre stack flowing over to the instrument cluster. Its door panels and much of the cabin components are shared with the Kangoo.
Three bodies and wheelbases will be offered in the Citan range, including compact, long and short, with panel-van, crewbus and mixed-use styles.

Engine options will include three Mercedes-Benz direct-injected turbodiesel mills, with outputs rated at 55kW, 81kW and 84kW. Torque figures have not been revealed.

The engines will be offered with five- and six-speed manual transmissions, sending power to the front wheels only.

The brand's BlueEfficiency Eco stop/start system will also feature as an option, along with low rolling-resistance tyres and enhanced battery/generator management, keeping fuel consumption low.
An electric version of the Citan is also expected, sharing its technnology with Renault's electric Kangoo.

Safety features on the international Citan include ABS, VDC, TCS and Acceleration Skid Control.
Mercedes expects to snag a five percent share of Europe's small van market, selling around 35,000 Citan vans each year.
