Gulf Oil Corporation’s eighth ‘Gulf Foster a Child Car Drive’ was held on the 31st of January, 2010. The event was flagged off by Mumbai Police Commissioner, Mr. Shivanandan from the starting point which was at the Police Ground, Worli and it ended at the Acres club in Chembur. It was at the Acres club where ‘Teen Patti’ debutant stars – Dhruv Ganesh, Shraddha Kapoor, Siddhartha Kher and Vaibhav Talwar shared some valuable time of their lives with the underprivileged children and orphans. They also announced the winners of the drive.

‘Gulf Foster a Child Car Drive’ has given the lucky winners a chance to meet the stars of the movie ‘Teen Patti’ which also includes the Big ‘B’ Amitabh Bachchan, Geeta Castelino, Alpa Patel, Arun Sawant and Gilchrist Gonsalves.

In this initiative taken by Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd, the corporate world has been given an example of its social responsibilities. This year’s drive also witnessed the participation of a few well known persons from the corporate as well as business worlds. However, the event organized by Sportscraft with the help of Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India could allow only 50 participants which were determined on the first-come first-serve basis.

The drive was indeed a unique or one-of-a-kind drive where the minimum requirement for a person to take part in the event was a valid driving license. Each car’s crew consisted of a driver, navigator and minimum one child along with one orphan / underprivileged child. The drive took place with the presence of 50 orphans from Our Lady’s Home, Parel, and St. Anthony’s Home, Byculla. Since a long time, Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd. has been supporting these institutions by helping them in terms of Gifts and various other means.

Director of Our Lady's Home, Father Rui Camelo stated, "This event helps to widen the horizons of the children, some of whom have never traveled in a car. They get to experience different things and interact with people from different walks of life and overall come back happy with the experience." He also mentioned that this drive could be a completely different experience for the underprivileged children and orphans. “The endeavor of this ‘Foster a Child’ Car drive is to bring hope and joy in the lives of these under-privileged children and make them feel special for this one day. We at Gulf Oil hope that through this small effort we would be able to make more people conscious of the plight of these children and work towards establishing a better future for them,” added Mr. Ravi Chawla, President, Gulf Lubes Business, India.
