Honda is hoping 15% of its national sales to come from Brio’s sales in this state. The fact that the Japanese giant has already received nation wide bookings of 5000 cars without even making test drive vehicles available sure hints that this has been a very potent launch, probably one of the most potent of this year.</p> <p>The latest hatchback from Honda is the most inexpensive car in the country to wear the Honda badge and will compete with Hyundai i10, Suzuki Ritz and the likes. The car is 3610 mm long, 1680 mm wide and 1500 mm tall with 2345 mm of wheelbase and comes with a 1.2 Litre 4 cylinder engine that sports the famous iVTEC tech from Honda and belts out 88 Power Strokes at 6000 RPM and maximum torque of 119 Nm at 4600 RPM apart from an expected overall fuel efficiency to be between 17 to 19 kmpl.</p><p>Jnaneswar Sen, Senior Vice President, marketing and sales, Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) said, “<em>We have launched the Brio at a competitive price due to our concerted efforts to control costs, maximize production efficiency and minimize impact of currency fluctuations. We have achieved this through pure localisation of critical components, using local suppliers, local materials and dies, by localised drawings and our Indian associates.” </em></p> <p>Without going into the details, it can be said that with Brio, Honda is well set to take the small car market by storm and going by the good response towards its new car, we can dare say that it won’t be any surprise if the car ends up becoming the segment leader. Thanks to the high initial pricing of the Jazz, Honda seems to have learnt its lessons the hard way and the pricing of Brio sure hints at it.</p><p></p>

From the Indigo, to Swift Dzire, to Vento, more recently the Skoda Rapid, every carmaker is creating a sedan version of its hatch to offer a more alluring choice for the car customer’s palate. Seems like Honda (with compatriot Toyota already having done the trick with the Etios twins) is the latest to jump onto the bandwagon.<br /><br />The Japanese carmaker is mulling a sedan version of the Brio compact with the tentative timeline for the new model being sometime in 2013, reports <a href="http://paultan.org/2011/05/05/honda-brio-sedan-in-the-works-debut-in-2013/">Paul Tan</a>. What triggers the development of the new car is the fact that Thai government, which thus far had been supporting hatchbacks for its eco-car projects may soon bring even sedans into the ambit. This would bring tax cuts and other benefits for the cars developed under the program, meaning lower costs for the manufacturer.
