The Etios series has sold a  total of 8, 271 units in November. This growth can also be attributed to  our efforts of educating more and more customers about the cost  benefits of petrol cars by understanding theirrequirement and usage.”</em></p> <p><em></em>The Etios sedan sold a good 3,943 units whereas the Etios  Liva hatchback recorded a sale of 4,328 units. Innova MPV too did a good  show by selling as many as 4,308 units last month. Etios Diesel Spied Expected Launch Festive Season

<p>Toyota is banking on the success of its mid size entry level sedan –  Etios. The long waits for the sedan has forced many buyers to switch to  other cars. Many buyers also complained the lack of diesel engine for  the Etios. Finally after all listening to the market demand, Toyota is  developing a diesel version of the well appreciated car.</p> <p>Toyota has actually started testing the diesel version of the Etios  Liva. The car was spotted by an ACI reader. Looking at the image it is  clear that Diesel Etios is slated for the festive season launch where  the demand is high. Talking about what engine will the Etios use, it  will be the same engine which does duty on the Corolla diesel but to  keep the costs low this diesel Etios will be given a Fixed Geometry  Turbo(FGT) rather than the expensive Variable Geometry Turbo(VGT) which  the Corolla has. The absence of a VGT will translate in lesser power  than the engine in Corolla. Well that sounds okay because an entry level  sedan is also expected to give good mileage figures.</p> <p>With its light weight and a diesel engine the Etios Diesel is  expected to return amazing fuel efficiency and the performance will also  be well rounded. Expect the prices to be a lakh more than the petrol  version which is currently pegged at<span class="WebRupee"> Rs. </span>6  – 8 lakhs. With the diesel Etios, Toyota seem to have another winner at  hand. Looking at its portfolio apart from the Camry the company is  doing real good business in India. Expect the Liva too to come in diesel  sooner or later.</p> <p>Will you be interested in the diesel Etios for a price of 6 – 8 lakh?</p>

The test drive went pretty well, Things that I liked about the car<span class="text_exposed_show" style="display: inline;">, it was very quiet inside (sound proofing has been done pretty well), The engine was smooth, soft and I tried 5th gear when I was doing 35 kmph, There was very little engine knocking...<span class="Apple-converted-space"> pretty good for a car at this price range.</span><br /><br />Next, I think Toyota have done a brilliant job with the power steering, its soft enough for anyone to handle within city traffic, and the salesman who accompanied me said that the power steering is tuned to be a little harder when driving at higher speeds. Many other things are spot on, and Toyota have nailed it right where they have to. Few things I would have really liked are, An Electronically adjustable outside rear view mirrors (atleast in the top end variant), the back seats to be more comfortable with a collapsing centre arm rest. But, Having said that, both of these have been classified as luxury in this segment. The main problem now is that Toyota don't have anything to offer in-between Etios and Corolla. Something to compete with City and Vento would have been great to fire up that segment.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br /><br />However now, with heavy bookings, we will see more and more Etios's around us on the roads very soon.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br /><br />Overall: A very good car which can reach out to almost every one looking for a decent reliable Japanese car in the Mid segment!<br /><br />On Road price in Bangalore -<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br />Model J (basic with no power steering) - Rs 5,87,480.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br />Model G - Rs 6,54,227,<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br />Model V - Rs 7,66,742 and<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br />Model VX - Rs 8,20,814.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br /><br />More Info: Etios hatchback named as LIVA will be launched around March April this year, and Etios Diesel is expected around September this year! In about a week’s time, Toyota Kirloskar has managed to register 7000 bookings for the car, and the count is still on. The high demand for the new sedan has created a waiting period for the car of as long as 4 months. It’s notable that Toyota’s Fortuner SUV buying requests are waitlisted for as much as 8 months. The company’s plant in Bangalore can currently produce about 2000 units a month. After the first round of applause, I just took a pause and tried to treat the whole subject of the new Toyota car and its aggressive pricing with some lateral thinking. And guess what, I suddenly stumbled upon a really, really ghastly thought. I suddenly realized that Toyota cars are a hot favorite among taxi drivers across the world, AND in India! I am sure you are getting the drift of it, but just for the sake of it, let me explain a bit more.</div><div style="border-width: 0px; font-size: 12px; margin: 0px; outline-width: 0px; padding: 0px 0px 15px; vertical-align: baseline;">You see, the Qualis was a rather odd-looking, boxy vehicle even for the ancient times it existed in. But it didn’t take much time for the clever taxi operators of India to see the marvels it wrapped under its ungainly skin. Reliable and indestructible as the sun itself, it went on to register hundreds of thousands of kilometers on its odo without a whimper – and became a huge hit among tour operators. And this gave Toyota some food for thought. They didn’t want to be seen as a taxi brand, or so they told us. So they took the bold decision to discontinue this hot selling model, and introduced the Innova, which to the Japanese maker’s surprise (or delight, behind closed doors) not just replicated, but overshadowed the success of its predecessor. The Innova is almost certainly irreplaceable for the taxi operators in the current scheme of things, and Toyota as a brand, is their best bet for a vehicle which has to run commercially.</div><div style="border-width: 0px; font-size: 12px; margin: 0px; outline-width: 0px; padding: 0px 0px 15px; vertical-align: baseline;">Now, with the launch of the Etios, Toyota has almost answered the prayers of all these taxi operators. They have given them the entry level sedan they always wanted for their fleet.  A spacious, comfortable, reliable Toyota sedan at a price that they didn’t expect even in their wildest dreams – what more could they have ever asked for? They know that the bloody thing is going to last till the end of the world, and with a 1.4-litre, fuel efficient diesel within their sights, these guys are, sure as hell, salivating!</div><div style="border-width: 0px; font-size: 12px; margin: 0px; outline-width: 0px; padding: 0px 0px 15px; vertical-align: baseline;">Ok, for the first year of its production, probably the Etios won’t sell any considerable numbers to these taxi guys, being available only with the petrol version, but I can assure you that there’s going to be a taxi operators’ stampede at the Toyota showrooms as soon as they launch that diesel. And you know what happens to your buying decision when that happens, right? You don’t want to buy the Indica as it’s a taxi car, you won’t touch the Logan as it’s a taxi car, in fact ever since you saw that Santro in black and yellow plying on Mumbai streets, you have decided to extend your budget and buy an i10 instead – didn’t you?</div><div style="border-width: 0px; font-size: 12px; margin: 0px; outline-width: 0px; padding: 0px 0px 15px; vertical-align: baseline;">Now, here’s my question to you.
